Our Christmas initiative for 2019 is simple – spread the joy!

The idea is that there is a ripple effect that comes from a small act of kindness and that a sense of joy is felt as a result and passed forward to the next encounter.

This is the very essence behind our hotel’s video for this year, where we spent valuable time with both St Vincent’s and The Donkey Sanctuary. Although filmed in August, joy should be spread all year round!

St. Vincent’s

St Vincent’s have a support centre that offers a range of advice, support and education to deprived families to help them build a brighter future. A way that they raise money to continue to offer these incredible services is through their wonderful shop and café at their base in Leeds. So we asked our staff to donate a range of clothing, shoes, soft furnishings, home furniture and bric-a-brac that would be useful for both the families and members of the public to purchase.

We have a long-standing relationship with this brilliant charity, including previously hosting their annual Spring Ball and also providing crockery and glassware for Christmas Day lunch for 85 people who would have otherwise spent it alone. There are many ways that you can help too.

The Donkey Sanctuary

The Donkey Sanctuary was a wonderful experience as we discovered that not only is this charity focussed on the welfare of the animal but they have embraced the benefits donkeys can have on people through their education, enrichment and Equine Assisted Learning programmes.

We had a tour with the team around the great facilities that they have at the sanctuary in Leeds, the staff explained each donkey’s individual story and how their work benefits the development of life skills. On our visit, we brought the donkeys delicious treats of carrots, apples and ginger biscuits! We also donated raffle prizes for the centre’s 20-year anniversary celebration and Christmas events. And how could we leave without adopting the beautiful Harbin!

This is how we spread the joy…
