My favourite place in Leeds is…Harewood House
We’re a nation of explorers, and with so many hidden gems all around the UK we’re never short of great local places to discover including in Leeds.
And who better to share some of the best places to visit in the local area than Katie O’Hara, Director of Sales at Crowne Plaza Leeds.
Being a Yorkshire lass, Katie knows a thing or two about the best places to visit in Leeds, including her favourite spot: Harewood House.
“I have been to Harewood House on many occasions – if ever I get visitors from down south, it tends to be on my day out list!”
Get to know Harewood House
A stunning piece of architecture, Harewood House has been in Leeds since it was built in the 18th century by Edwin Lacelles.
Wanting only the best of the best for his home, he employed the top designers, decorators, and everyone in between to bring his dream vision to life.
The house is also surrounded by 100 acres of natural beauty, including a variety of gardens, a lake, a bird garden, a farm and so much more.
Three reasons Katie loves visiting Harewood House
With so much to see and experience at the house, it’s no wonder Katie is a big fan! She shares three reasons why it’s her favourite place to visit in Yorkshire.
It’s a dog-friendly location
“Stanley loves to join in all the walks and exploring.”
Harewood House is a paw-fect place for all the family, and of course that includes Stanley, Katie’s four-legged companion.
With so much space to explore and fresh air, it means there’s plenty of room for dogs of all shapes and sizes to get their daily exercise in.
It’s a great spot to visit whether you’re a local or are coming to Leeds for a getaway.
Trust us, your pooch will be mutts about it. (Last pun, we promise!)
There’s so much history and culture to explore
“I love history, so getting to visit inside the actual house and see a working kitchen (not that I would know what to do!) is fascinating.”
There’s no doubt that the house itself is an impressive sight, and when you step inside it gets even better.
Libraries, drawing rooms, bedrooms, galleries with priceless artwork and much more make up the house, which Katie recommends touring.
And if you’re with the family or just love nature, there’s a farm and a bird garden with a host of local wildlife to meet.
It’s a great chance for the little ones to learn more about different types of animals.
It’s a great place for local events and a taste of good old Yorkshire!
“My family and I have also attended proms in the park there, which was absolutely amazing! It’s located in a lovely part of Yorkshire, so a pub tends to be on the agenda on the way home too.”
Did you know the house also hosts events throughout the year? One of Katie’s happiest trips there involved watching the proms set against the scenic backdrop of the house and gardens.
